Now that the Makerspace@LHS has a printr bot simple 3D printer, students are exploring how to design their own projects to print.  Using Tinkercad, students are designing play props, phone cases, guitar picks, and whatever else they can imagine.

Jamie Kassiotis has created a Tinkercad Sheet Cheat to provide a starting point for 3D design.

Tinkercad is a simple, online 3D design and 3d printing tool for the masses. Whether you’re a designer, hobbyist, teacher, or kid, you can use Tinkercad to make toys, prototypes, home decor, Minecraft models, jewelry – the list is truly endless!

Whoever you are… you dream it, you can make it – our goal is for you to become a proficient Tinkerer! (source: Tinkercad.com)

While Tinkercad is great, it’s not your only option. Google Sketchup also allows for 3D design. Look for my next post comparing the two programs.
